Input Rules
Single Characters
One-Key Characters
One-key characters use the highest-frequency characters. Memorizing them speeds up input.
Since the right little finger rests on the “;” key, which is normally idle, and both thumbs are also normally idle — a waste — the Space bar, the semicolon key (;), and the apostrophe key (‘) are set as the three candidate-commit keys. The three tiers of one-key characters require no memorization: the input method prompts them automatically. All 78 tier-3 one-key characters are the most frequently used single characters; with long-term use they form natural memory and greatly speed up input.

Root Characters
Root character input rule: the first key is the key where the character sits, plus the character’s phonetic supplement, then Space to commit. Some root characters have collisions; type (;) to commit the second candidate.

Ordinary Characters
For characters with fewer than four codes, the first letter of the character’s Pinyin serves as the supplement. For characters with four or more codes, the fourth key is the character’s final code.

Two-Key & Three-Key Characters
Besides root characters with only a two-key full code and three-key characters, there are also two-key and three-key simplified characters. Two-key and three-key simplified characters are abbreviations of the full code, so you can commit with either the short code or the full code, as you like.
By statistics, there are 1,304 two-key characters and 6,273 three-key characters, covering essentially all single characters.
To speed up single-character input, single characters are given tier-1, tier-2, and tier-3 short codes — in other words, the user need not type the full code to produce a character. For example, the character “是” can be typed in the following four ways. No memorization is needed: the input method prompts automatically, giving the user maximum freedom and making touch-typing easy.

|---|---|---|---|
| 1-key, 2nd candidate | 2-key, 2nd candidate | 3-key, 1st candidate | Full code |

Besides single characters, the 33,997 most frequently used words are also given three-key codes, saving keystrokes to the greatest extent.
Two-Character Words
Take the first two codes of each character. If either character is a root character, its second code is a phonetic supplement.
